One of the finest actors, producers and forces of nature to ever step in front of a movie camera, Burt was born on this day in 1913.
"The first time I saw myself onscreen, I thought I looked TERIBBLE! My hair looked like a bird's nest!" - Burt Lancaster
There are still a number of Burt's films I have yet to see so this is not all inclusive as of yet, but here is my "Essential Burt Lancaster" list to date:
"The Killers" - 1946
"Brute Force" - 1947
"I walk Alone" - 1948
"Rope of Sand" - 1949
"The Flame and the Arrow" - 1950
"From Here to Eternity" - 1953
"Gunfight at O.K. Coral" - 1957
"Sweet Smell of Success" - 1957
"Run Silent, Run Deep" - 1958
"Seperate Tables" - 1958

Birdman of Alcatraz" - 1962
"Seven Days in May" - 1964
"The Train" - 1964
"The Professionals" - 1966
Such an amazing actor. He was great in every movie I've seen of his. Even the first Airport (1970)!
ReplyDeletei agree, Burt is always worth seeing even if the film isnt so good.
ReplyDeletehe hated that Airport film - in his own words- "Biggest piece of shit i ever made!"
but of course a huge blockbuster and started that whole star-studded "disaster" flick trend.
thanks for commenting!
If you haven't seen it yet, please make a point of seeing him in "The Leopard". You won't be sorry!
