Loretta Young :D

Just finished last night...

I've been watching so many of her pre-code films lately (courtesy of TCM's awesome star of the month tribute to her in January) that I felt compelled to try and capture lovely Loretta on paper. Canson tinted paper to be exact, approx 15" x 20" with 2H and HB pencil and white colored pencil.

if you like this picture, please stop by my facebook page and "like" it and share it with others! thanks!

New Artwork...

My model friend Ifigenia T., a.k.a. "Crowsreign" as KISS's "Starchild". Ifigenia is a Greek beauty with a really bad ass rock and roll attitude and me being a Kiss fan from waaaaay back I thought this was a good combo! If you want to see more of her go here or here to see the stock photo I referenced 2H and HB pencils on 18" x 24" drawing paper.

Graphite portrait of my friend "Ginger" from Asleep in New York...Over 2 years in the making!..well actually it took 2 days but it was over 2 years ago I talked to her about doing a picture of her. I hope it was worth the wait!

Happy Harleyween 2011

What could be better than celebrating Halloween with the Maiden of Mirth?...I started this tradition last year and intend on keeping it going for as long as i feel like keeping it going!

I've been giving my art studio a much-needed overhaul but spent a few nights on this for the holiday. 2H and HB pencils on drawing paper. Ok everybody lets hear a Halloween Happy Harley Squeak, on three...1...2...3...squeee!

New Artwork...

An impossibly long-legged model aquaintence of mine (Man, I sound like Brando in "Streetcar"!) over at Deviant Art asked if anyone wanted to draw her as an Alien and I thought it would be fun to give it a shot! What I ended up with looks to me like a cross between an H.R. Geiger chick, a Sorayama fetish painting and an alien babe from the old Star Trek but she loves it!

New Artwork...

more fun with Harley Quinn.

I'm not happy with her expression. Its just not intense enough. Otherwise me likey. This could be a fun one to do in colored pencil and if I do I'll certainly up the ante on her gaze and all.

2H and HB pencils on 14" x 17" sketch paper.

New Artwork...

My first new picture for 2011

Portrait of Selena Kyle a.k.a Catwoman

Title: "Cult of Purrsonality"

I thought she was a good subject to mix in with Egyptian style motifs from the Art Deco period

2H and HB pencils on 18" x 24" drawing paper

I might do a color pencil version of this as well

New Artwork...

Another Harley Quinn drawing...she's fun!

Isnt she sweet?

I was really just doodling in my sketch book and came up with this, but I liked it enough to scan it, print it out larger and rework it as a finished sketch to be done in colored pencil at a later date.

New Artwork...

First new art for 2010, woo hoo!

Approx. 10"x17" on Canson 65lb sketch paper, 2H and HB pencils and lots of erasing.

The model is my friend Rachel, who appeared once before in my artwork last year as my pretty little "Quazelfly"

I knew I'd want to draw her again someday and, well, here she is!

This is just a study and will end up being done in color pencil with some sort of b/g and possibly other figures as well. This is one of the best likenesses I've done to date (yeah, she's really THAT cute!) so I really hope I can repeat that success when I get to work on the color version.

Many thanks to Rachel for her generosity and enthusiasm to become a part of my art once again!

New Artwork

This past week I took a much-needed break from my "Billiard Bitches" (as they have come to be affectionately known) and colored pencils and did a graphite piece, a portrait of my 'art' friend Brandy Perez (http://brandyperez.blogspot.com/) . Both she and her husband like my work and seemed pretty excited at the idea of me doing her portrait! She is quite a beautiful woman with a unique profile and HUGE eyes so it was fun to try and capture all that on paper!

Tech stuff: It's on a piece of 18x24" strathmore 64lb tinted charcoal paper, done with derwent 2H and HB pencils with white charcoal pencil for the highlights. I started it on Friday night, worked right through the weekend and finished it monday. It's a pretty good likeness I think, and I had fun designing the earring and playing with the hairstyle a bit, but that braid, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, that was tough!!!

Anyway, it's back to the "bitches" now . . .*sigh*

edit: I worked on this a bit last night, fixing some problems with the nose and overall profile that just bugged me too much to leave alone. This is an updated scan 2/23/09.
