A Rant and a List...

OK, some serious net-turd reposted an entire year of my blog at his own without even giving me credit or posting a link back to the original source! At first I was really pissed off, but after I thought about it, for the most part I dont really care. I mean I am scanning stuff from books and other things I have around here but hey, I am the one taking the time to scan this shit, the least you can do is give me some credit knucklehead!! He's doing this to others as well but it looks like for the most part Blogspot does get involved in these types of problems.
However, what I do NOT take kindly to is my own artwork being reposted elsewhere without having the courtesy to even mention my name, so I am most likely going to make a second "invite only" blog just for my artwork.
OK rant over, now for the fun! Juliette over at "Some Parade" did up a "Centuries worth of Favorites" list and I thought I'd have fun doing the same. Well it turned out to be a real chore actually so thank you Juliette! Heheheh, but seriously, it was fun and of course not being someone who likes rules I made my list 105 films that I think are great or just enjoy the hell out of or both.

I think you should care. It's your intellectual property and that person it stealing your hard work.

If you just send the person the links that they stole, they'll remove it. It worked for me.

Its one thing to take someone's pictures, but their artwork??!
That is fucking disgusting!
I hope that moron gets his site shut down!

Another great movie from the 30s is Tod Browning's "Freaks". Have you seen it?

Marvelous!! Way to go, I love your list. And yea-- I can see why you'd remarked that our tastes sort of part sometime around 1965, though you do seem to favor action across the board, yeah? Anyhow, I really enjoyed reading your list-- love stuff like this. Some of the ones I went "ooh" (in a very good way)at were: I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang, Little Foxes, and The Abyss. :)

Again, thanks for sharing, and also thanks for the link back!

Sorry about that other guy using your work without credit. :(

Quelle - that's a LOT of links, but maybe i'll try that if he doesnt take my stuff down within 24 hours like i asked him to. maybe I shouldnt have said i dont care, but there seems to be so little i can do about it I'm just not gonna let it ruin my day.

Brightestblue - "gooble-gobble-gooble-gobble we accept you we accept you".... heheheh, yeah I've seen Freaks many times, i love it! believe me i could have easily made a top 100 films of 1930's alone, so many great ones from that decade!

Juliette - for newer stuff yeah i usually just see the action films it seems. Also, I realized last night that i had almost NO muscials on my list either but i do enjoy the Fed and Ginger films, almost anything with Gene Kelly or Cyd Charrise, and of course the Busby Berkley films at Warner Bros, just not enough room for them all!

i'm surprised you didnt scold me for being a rule breaker though, heheh!

I love the photos at the top of your blog, how did you manage to design it?

I feel the same way about my blog/art -- if someone steals things I've scanned (like my Dirk Bogarde photos) I don't actually mind that much since it's not like I actually took the photos - but if someone steals my art and doesn't give me credit I'd get really really angry!

I don't think you should have an invite-only blog for your art, though - just make sure if someone steals it that you ask them to take it down or give you credit for it. Otherwise, nobody would get to see it! :)

who is it, geezer? point me at him! I'll sort him out!

oh, wait. it's not me, is it?

nah, can't be me. I pinch people's stuff all the time, but I pretend I can't remember where I knicked it from, and. . .oh, crap! did I just say that out loud?!

Just noticed The Piano. Surprising choice, but good one. :)

Johngray - i just did it up in Photoshop. copy and pasted a bunch of different pics that represent my interests and my blog etc etc and messed around with sizes and placement for oh i dunno about 3 hours or so. I used to make desktop wallpapers too but havent done that in a long time. maybe i'll post a few here at some point.

Kate - i'm still not sure what i'm going to do. i may keep posting the art here but put a watermark on it instead, so i do have a few options.

Joe - its one thing to nab pics but to actually nab close to an entire blog is another thing! hell i expect the pics to be nabbed!

Juliette - i LOVE the Piano...i think i saw it 4 times in the theater! The last time i went was a midnight show and i was the only person there! it was just about the most awesome time i ever had watching a film!!
hey i watched 'Taken' tonight, whoa, KICK ASS flick! vey well-made, great performance by Liam Neeson. i enjoyed the hell out of it!

Wow, what a jerk. I guess I can understand about old movie stills and such because it happens all the time- others taking photos and not crediting the original scanner. But your personal art, sheesh. Totally unacceptable!

I quite like your list. And P.S., if you do make another blog for your artwork, I'd love to be invited. ;)

I know I wasn't supposed to look, but now that I have, not giving commentary would be difficult.

Question:
You like The Fountainhead, how do you feel about the new Atlas Shrugged film they're making?

I'm glad to see you liked Pitch Black. That movie's underrated.

So you like Natalie Portman then?
Ever see Beautiful Girls?
Her character in it is my favorite of all time and it might be my favorite movie.

Artman2112 said...

Ash - its OK i forgive you!

i have little hopes that the Atlas Shrugged movie will be anything decent. for starters i dont see how that story can be remotely told in even a 3-4 hour film. they'll have to take out so much it wont even be the same story anymore. last i heard Angelina Jolie was supposed to be the star and although i do like her she is not a Rand Heroine type at all imo. but it'll mean there's money behind it so who knows.

Pitch Black really is awesome! i like the follow-up as well even though it wasnt as good, it did have some good parts. Riddick is the only character i have any interest in seeing Vin Deisel play.

i have not seen Beautiful Girls or many other of Natalie's films but i do like her a lot. imo she's very talented and certainly one of the most beautiful actresses working today.

Ash, The Movie Geek said...

Glad you forgive me.

Well, I know it's Angelina's favorite book and I know she's more conservative than she sometimes appears, but she's not playing the lead anymore...Charlize Theron's been cast.
I know what you mean though...I think the mini-series idea makes more sense.

Vin's been in some bad movies, but I think he can act. He's underrated.

Natalie's definitely in my top three (Her, Jennifer Connelly, and Jena Malone). I have a huge girl crush on her too.
I hope you'll check it out. I think it's the best dialogue film ever. Great script, great cast.
I love it so much.

Artman2112 said...

funny because a freind of mine who's reading it right now thnk Cahrlize os perfect for it and i dont think she knows she's been cast in it! she certainly looks more the part than Angelina that's for sure.
i agree the mini series idea is better, they could flesh out the whole book and do it right without having to worry about time constraints or how many showings per day they can cram into a multiplex. my dream cast would be Eleanor Parker as Dagny, Kirk Douglas as Hank Reardon, Gilbert Roland as Francisco and Michael Rennie as John Galt. of course they would've needed to make it back in 57 for that so i lose, bwah!

i will definitely check out that Natalie film! i'll mix it in with something like 'Orphans of the Storm' some night, ha!

Ash, The Movie Geek said...

Yay for your friend:)

I don't know, I was talking about it with my big brother and he feels very strongly that the person they cast shouldn't be totally hot.
He said, "She was more of a hero than a babe."
But hey, Monster...Charlize can look non-babe-ish, haha.

Haha.
That's great...sorry you happened to come along too late to cast them;)
Perhaps you guys can tell me some of their character traits and let me do it. I'd love that.

Good!
Thank you.
Let me know how you like it.

Artman2112 said...

oh, i disagree totally! Dagny is the "ideal" woman, she couldnt be anything less than stunning. there are plenty of instances in the book where her appearance is clearly described.

Charlize is a good choice for the part physcially imo. weather she can pull off the characterization is another story.

there's no way i'd try to list character traits, that would be cheating!
you'd need to read it my dear!
c'mon it's only just under 1,100 pages!

if you did read it i think you will be absolutely astonished at how relevant it still is, more than never actually.

i'll probly read it again this year myself.

Ash, The Movie Geek said...

I think she's a really good actress.
Have you seen her performance in The Devil's Advocate?
I loved it.

I would, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone told me not to. It was the reason Officer Barbrady will never read again;)

In reality, I'm reading another book right now, but even if I wasn't, it takes me a long time to get through stuff.
I get really severe headaches when I read.
Probably a brain tumor.

you leave me no choice but to quote Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger:

"IT'S NODDA TOO-MUH!"

Ash, The Movie Geek said...

I love that movie.

"Our mom says our dad's a sex machine."

"You're not so tough without yer car are ya?"

Artman2112 said...

My impression's pretty good too;)
I'm fond of randomly yelling "Get to zee choppah!"
