Aelita, Queen of Mars...

Some screen caps from a 1924 Russian silent film I watched the other day....

Aelita herself, bow to the Queen!

Apparently this was the first sci-fi film made in Russia, but most of it takes place in Moscow.

All the stuff on Mars was total Art Deco insanity!

The costumes were totally wacked!

Life on Mars as not portrayed as a very happy one! Basically it was just a huge socialist propaganda film disguised as sci-fi!

When the humans land on Mars they incite a revolt amongst the underground slave society, of course leading the main character to loudly proclaim they will start a new system just like that of the Soviet Socialists!

All in all not a very good film but totally fascinating and visually interesting! Glad I saw it once!

The sets look amazing! I've never seen a sci-fi silent movie before. I'm not a big fan of the genre in general, but I will have to see this one someday because it looks interesting!

Love it! Art Deco/Russian/Retrofuturism/Scifi. Huzzah! Those sets and costumes are crazy.

I like that second image.

If you liked this one you should like Interplanetary Revolution. It's an animated Soviet short.
